Frich Insights: Talking Money with Siblings

We've covered talking about money with significant others, roommates, best friends and colleagues but there's one topic we haven't tackled yet - talking about money with your family. To be fair, it's difficult to discuss families, because family structures can be so different and often get very complex. We choose our best friends, significant others, but we don't get to choose our family members. On top of that, money is one of the top reasons why families fight (or sometimes even fall apart).

So, keeping that in mind, we chose to begin tackling this topic quite tamely and we'll try to build up to more and more intimate questions as we keep growing as a community🥰

And of course - as always - no judgement here, just giving you an honest insight on how families around you truly function.

Let's start easy. We know that many of you look up to your siblings & take their advice to heart. But do you know how much your siblings make? Should you know??

The consensus is that there is no consensus. You guys were pretty much 50/50 on this one (47% yes, 53% no). But next time you ask your sibling for money advice, maybe it'd be good context to know how much they make to assess whether their advice truly fits your situation.

This is truly a question about trust. So again - no judgement here. But if you ever find yourself in a similar situation and can't figure out how you feel about lending large sums of money to your sibling, it might be helpful to know that most people are pretty split too. The answers were quite similar, with 57% saying yes and 43% saying no.

And this is what it all boils down to, right? They way we were raised🫠

So whether you and your sister are BFFs or you can't stand each other, you're not alone. 15% said that they feel competitive with their siblings because of the environment they grew up in; 13% said that they used to feel competitive but no longer do; 7% feel competitive when it comes to money & life achievements, and the rest don't feel competitive.

That's that for this week's recap! If you don't want to miss these questions real time, make sure to check the app daily🥰
